South Ward Promise Neighborhood Record Year

The BRICK Education Network and the South Ward Promise Neighborhood (SWPN) will distribute a record $7,453,974.66 in funds to our SWPN partners to support children and families in the South Ward Promise Neighborhood.

Thanks to the money donated and raised, BRICK had one of the most successful years on record, with the opening of the South Ward Promise Neighborhood Wellness Center focused on maternal health in partnership with Saint James Health, and just this week, with “Summer Fun Fest” hosted by BRICK and SWPN to help families and students strengthen their learning abilities and enjoy a safe and fun summer.

Children and students received free athletic wear from Nike to promote a healthy and active summer season and backpacks full of workbooks and educational reading materials to keep young minds sharp throughout the summer. The funds raised this fiscal year allowed BRICK and SWPN to put together an amazing event for more than 400 members of the community.

The Wellness Center, which celebrated its opening with a ribbon cutting in May, was established to provide South Ward Promise Neighborhood residents and the greater Newark community with quality healthcare. The center focuses on maternal health to address the disparities in healthcare that affect expectant and new moms of color.

As we continue our work to strengthen education, health, wellness, and community in Newark, this program year is cause for celebration and gratitude. We invite everyone who contributed to the success of the BRICK/SWPN partnership to pat yourselves on the back and be proud of the work we’ve done. There is still more to do in the battle for equality, but we’re in a great position to meet our goals.
